Locals Celebrate MLK Day with Environmental Conference on Diversity and Inclusion
Atlanta, Georgia – October 15, 2013
The Environmental Professionals of Color – Atlanta Chapter aims to galvanize the spirit of this upcoming MLK Day to spark a local dialogue on the lack of diversity in the environmental movement. Since its recent founding in August 2012, EPOC Atlanta has provided a forum for collaboration among environmental organizations, and professionals and students of color within metropolitan Atlanta communities. The group hopes to challenge barriers to inclusion in the environmental sustainability sector through networking, advocacy and community outreach. The Environmental Diversity & Inclusion Roundtable is the first of its programs.
When: Monday, January 20, 2014; 8:30am until 12:00pm
Where: Southface, 241 Pine St NE, Atlanta, GA 30308; Free parking
What: Environmental Diversity & Inclusion; panels and breakout groups on how to increase diversity in your environmental organization
Who: Environmental professionals and students of the environmental sphere
Why: Despite making up 36% of the population, people of color are represented 11% in the staff of natural resource organization and 9% in natural resource organizations’ boards
Cost: Free (pre-registration); $10 per person at the door
